Interview Jesko Raffin Moto2™ European Champion 2018

Jesko Raffin, Moto2™ champion against all the odds. Raffin did not have things easy to get his Moto2™ European Championship title. The 2014 Moto2™ champion had a promising start to the season with three victories in the first four races. However, in MotorLand rival Edgar Pons starting winning – three times in a row - while Raffin had to be content with second place, gathering points, riding conservatively and trying to recover his winning confidence. Albacete was to be the place where the title between Pons and Raffin would be decided and in the end it would be the torrential rains of Hurricane Leslie that was the critical factor. With the first race run in persistent rain, Raffin took fifth place, but with Edgar Pons finishing sixth he still didn’t have enough points to take the title. The second race began under an intense downpour. Although the change to rain tires was authorized in the middle of the race, eventually the red flag was waved in light of the impossible conditions. Raffin was in the pit lane when he discovered that he had won his second title as the riders totaled up their points. His sixth position was enough to earn him the European Moto2™ title.
